Artist Statement
the heart and soul behind what I do
Millions of individuals suffer from what I lovingly refer to as darkness, and no one is immune. Darkness wears a mask of many faces, and for me, that mask is depression, anxiety, and a weird seizure disorder known as PNES. Yet the thing about modern society is no one tells you how to fight it, to live with it, or even that it’s okay to be touched by darkness. It’s okay to be broken. I seek to explore that which is broken, vulnerable, and human.
After 2 years of struggling with being in and out of the hospital, and almost losing my two best friends to their own darkness I feel I am in a unique position to explore that which is broken, and what it means to be human touched by darkness. Human beings were never meant to be perfect things; we strive in our own darkness, and in the breaking. For it’s in those moments of falling apart that we truly heal, and disregard those broken pieces that never truly fit.
We are nothing if not beautifully imperfect. I hope that in exploring our darkness, and what it means to be broken, human, we can find a better way to tomorrow.
